In yoga, backbends are visually alluring and physically expanding, yet these gorgeous curvy, and often challenging postures are great teachers. Modern-day living means our spines take the brunt of our lifestyle as we are regularly in a contorted, heart-protecting position. Moving our bodies in a way that counters our daily life can often feel scary and vulnerable. On an emotional level, back bending teaches us to explore our fears and open our hearts to our natural state. Through simple practices, we can enhance our capacity to marinade in our everyday feelings of discomfort and heartbreak and in fact, open up to more joy! Over this four-week series, experience breathing exercises and posture priming as a path to make your backbends and your life feel more liberating. Each session will be comprised of purposeful breath work, meditation, and can intermediate asana practice.
